The purpose of this article is to walk through the intake of grapes within Blended. If you plan to schedule intakes for the future and write crush pad work orders, see our other article for that.
Suggested before you start:
Ensure the Vineyard and Block you are receiving from are already in Blended
Ensure the crop year has been updated to current
Open the Intake tab
From Production, navigate to the Intake tab. This tab will manage any open Intakes that are in progress. When an intake is created, it will create linked entries on the Intake tab and the initial tab within the protocol you select (typically Processing). This enables you to record entries upon the lot while the intake remains open. During this time, any changes to the intake will be reflected in the lot.
Use the Create button to select Receive Grapes
The intake form has a number of key fields, the details of each field are below.
Intake Date: The date you will receive the fruit
Lot ID or Name: This name will refer to both the intake and the Lot. Lot IDs are required to be unique.
Production Purpose: The production purpose tells Blended what the intended purpose of the grapes is for from the TTBs perspective. Choose Wine Production if you intend to ferment the grapes or aren't sure. Choose Juice Production or Concentrate production if the grapes are intended to be turned into non fermented juice or concentrate for sale.
Production purpose can be changed after an intake has been completed. Blended will automatically correct the TTB form to reflect the update purpose.
Bond: If you have multiple bonds within Blended, choose the relevant bond that this intake will be associated with.
Production Protocol: Choose which protocol the Lot will follow.
Vessel (Optional): Put the Lot into a vessel(s) upon intake. Users are allowed to select a single vessel or create a group from the vessel screen.
Weights: Capture individual or summary weights in this section. Users can choose a variety of units. Using the Plus button will add additional rows. The Load ID column can be used to identify bins or vessels but is an optional field. Blended automatically calculates totals and a net weight.
Estimated Yield: Input an estimated yield. This helps Blended convert from weight to volume and gives us an estimate we can use on the TTB form. Estimates are only used until actual volume measurements are taken.
Block: Select the Block the fruit is received from. If it is not in the system, feel free to manually input composition information. Expand this by clicking on the Container/Location Info box.
Variety: This will automatically get populated if you select a Block
Pick Brix: This field is option but highly recommended for any California wineries. This input directly populates the CA Crush Report.
Container/Location Info can be clicked to reveal full composition info. This is normally hidden and automatically populated when a Block is selected. Clicking will expand these fields and they can each be edited manually.
Close Intake and Issue Weigh Tag: For Fruit, this is automatically unchecked. Leave this unchecked if you'd like to leave the weigh tag open for future edits. If it is complete, checking this box will close the intake upon hitting the Save button.
