Wine Movements (Transfer, Split and Combine)

This guide explains how movements (transfers, splits, and combines) work within Blended and when to use each.

Blended is a lot-based system. When considering movements, think about how volume is flowing in relation to the Lots you have in the system. As you'll see in the workflows, we've added flexibility so that if you choose the wrong type of movement, you can still achieve the desired result. In any of the movement types, you can go have wine in one or multiple vessels.

Blended allows you to move a Lot into a vessel that is currently occupied. This will replace the current contents of the vessel with the newly desired Lot. If the Lot being displaced is connected to a group, any other vessel connections will remain. If the Lot being displaced is only within the vessel, it will no longer be associated with any vessel.

Vessel Selection and Creating Groups

Within all movements (transfer, split, and combine) is a Vessel Selection box. This box functions as a search. If you start typing in the name of the vessel you are looking for, Blended will automatically display vessels that match. The search will only start once a manageable number of vessels is possible. The checkmark next to the vessel name will turn green when a valid vessel is in the field.

Only Empty: This acts as a filter on the search. When it is on, only vessels that are currently empty will appear in the search results. Uncheck this box to display vessels regardless of empty/full status.

Create Group: Selecting this button opens a vessel group builder. Type in vessel names and click Add to create a vessel group. Vessels selected display within the modal. Users can remove them using the "x" icon next to their name. Once you have a complete list of the desired vessels, click Save. This will bring you back to the transfer, split, or combine modal you were on to finalize it. Blended automatically generates a vessel group naming convention based on the Lot's name.

If a barrel you are selecting is currently being used, it will be reassigned to the new barrel group.

If you are blending by taking specific barrels, this is a great way to reassign them from the input Lot to the output Lot.

Create Group on Mobile

Blended mobile has unique functionality related to the Create Group function. An example transfer is below. Upon selecting Create Group, users can either add vessels by typing or can click on the camera icon.

The camera icon opens up the camera on the mobile device, enabling users to scan QR codes as a means to generate the vessel group. Blended has continuous scanning capability, meaning users can sequentially scan QR codes and then click Save to finalize. Scanning a QR code of a vessel that is already contained within the group will automatically remove it from the group.

Transfer

A transfer is a movement where volume stays within the Lot. Transfers can move volume from one vessel to many or from many vessels to one, but the commonality is that the source and result are the same lot.

Below is the transfer modal. Update the date and volume to be transferred.

Volume Changes

If you input a volume that is less than the current volume, Blended will ask what you'd like done with the difference.

  • Record as a loss: This will record an operational loss. If the Lot has a tax class, it will be recorded in the bulk wine section of the TTB report.

  • Split: This option allows you to split the Lot without incurring any losses. Create a new Lot name for the amount being transferred.

If you input a volume that exceeds the current volume, Blended will automatically record a volume increase when the event is captured. If the Lot has a tax class, the volume gain will be reflected in Section A of the TTB report.

Vessel Selection

Select a vessel or create a group to choose multiple vessels. Refer to the Vessel selection guide above for more details on how the Create Group workflow works.

Split and Press

Split and Press are the same movement type. Split is when the volume from one Lot is divided among multiple Lots. For Split events, the prior history of the Lot will be preserved for any New Lots created.

Below is the Split modal. The top of the modal shows information related to the input Lot, including Name, Current Volume, and Vessel(s).

Start by updating the date.

Each row shows a Lot that part of the input volume is being split into. Use the + and trashcan icons to add or remove rows.

Within a row, record how much volume is being allocated. The action dropdown specifies what needs to happen; options are:

  • New Lot: Designate a new Lot name and specify vessel(s)

  • Blend Into: Select a current Lot to blend volume into

  • Use for Topping: This option will designate the volume for topping and add it to the Topping Table within Production

  • Discard: Records this as a loss

  • Keep in Lot: Volume will remain within the Lot

  • Record as Loss and archive: Volume will be recorded as a loss, and the input Lot will be archived

Split Tabs

The Split modal contains a set of tabs, one for each proposed Split. Each tab presents the composition, cost, and chemistry associated with that Split.

Blend and Combine

Use Blend/Combine when you aim to combine volumes from multiple input Lots into a single output Lot. From the production dashboard, select the Lots that are to be involved in the blend, and then, using the operational dropdown, select 'Blend/Combine'.

Start by choosing a date and/or time for the event to be recorded.

The Blend modal is divided into two sections: Input and Output. Use the + and trashcan icons to add or remove inputs. Each input row displays the Lot Name, Volume to be blended, Current Total Volume, Current Vessel(s), and an Edit Group button.

In the input section of the modal, record the volume to be taken from each of the selected input Lots. Blended allows you to input a volume greater than what is currently available. This will automatically record a corresponding volume increase.

In the Output section of the modal, you can create a new Lot or blend into an existing one. First, select the action type, then either enter a new Lot name or pick the Lot you want to blend into.

Finally, add a vessel name or "Create a Group" for the new output blend.

Tips for Updating Vessels

A common workflow is pulling specific barrels from the inputs to use in a new blend. When this happens, you’ll want to remove those barrels from the input vessel groups and link them to the new Lot. The easiest way to do this is to create a Group with those barrels for the output Lot—this automatically removes their link to the input Lots.

Finally, if you are making additional vessel changes during this process, use the Edit Group buttons to make alterations to a Lot's vessel group.

Blend Tab

The Blend tab within the modal will display the Composition, Cost, and Chemistry of the proposed new Blend. Click on the tab to view the data and click on Inputs to return to the modal.
